Android phone fans on Verizon's network in the US have now yet another reason to rejoice, as the 2.1 flavor of the operating system on their devices has been leaked into the wild. The solution was spotted at large both for the Motorola DROID and for the HTC DROID ERIS, and some people have already tried it, reporting that it works pretty well.

Starting with the DROID by Motorola, the leaked Android 2.1 operating system for the handset is reportedly capable of improving the performance users receive. A video hands-on with the leaked OS installed on DROID is also available and, while not all features seem to work as they should (live wallpapers and the 3D launcher are missing), the overall feeling is that the phone is better with 2.1 on board. More on the matter can be found here.

The Android 2.1 update for the Droid Eris has leaked too, and can be found over at xda-developers. This is the full package, is seems, and not the same broken ROM that emerged not too long ago. According to those who already gave it a try, all seems to be working fine, and the new Sense solution included in the update can offer an enhanced experience to users.

Those willing to try it out on their devices should take into consideration the fact that this is not an official update and that, in case things are not made the way they should be, the mobile phone might end up bricked. Not to mention that, since the Android 2.1 leaked both for DROID and DROID ERIS, there are great chances that Verizon is considering the release of an official solution in the near future.

But since there are those who like playing around with this kind of software, we should also mention that the leaked ROM for the DROID ERIS has been also ported to the HTC Hero. It seems that the overall performance is quite good, though not all features and functionalities are working as they should just yet.
