Dex One Corporation announced on Monday the launch of a new application for handsets running under Google's Android operating system, one that will bring local business information straight to the homescreen of the mobile phone. According to the company, the owners of a Motorola DROID or other Android-based devices will find it easy to search DexKnows.com with a single click, while also enjoying a series of features developed specifically for their handsets, the company adds.

The new DexKnows.com Android application enables users to easily search by business name type or location, while also delivering a series of other features, including Quick Links, through which users can find details on a particular type of business (bars, hotels, coffee shops, and more). All that one will need to do is to scroll through a series of images and then clicking on a particular picture to access the needed results.

Other features of the app also include: - “Near Me” Search: Using the GPS capabilities of the Android handset, users can find relevant search results near their immediate location. - Ratings and Reviews: Detailed ratings and reviews on local businesses help consumers choose which businesses are right for them. - Movie Showtimes: Consumers can look up movie showtimes, descriptions and purchase tickets directly through the DexKnows.com mobile app. - Driving Directions: Using the handset's "Locate Me" feature, users can receive driving directions to and from specific locations. - People search: Listings make it easy for consumers to find individuals' contact information. - Reverse number lookup: Consumers can easily track down a number with the touch of a few keys.

The new DexKnows.com Android app comes to the market as the latest enhancement the company made to its interactive offerings. Dex One offers media products and marketing services meant to help local businesses be found more easily by on-the-go shoppers. The offering also includes online and mobile search solutions, voice-search platforms, print yellow pages directories and pay-per-click networks. The new app can be downloaded from the Android Market or via m.dexknows.com, where it is available for the iPod touch and Blackberry devices too.

“Last year's introduction of DexKnows.com for the iPhone and other smartphones was the first step in our strategy to enable local businesses to better attract on-the-go consumers - all while helping consumers quickly access a vast amount of local search data,” said Deborah Eldred, director of mobile and personalization, Dex One. “We're thrilled to bring this market-leading functionality to the Android platform.”
