Verizon Wireless and Sierra Wireless announced on Thursday at the CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2009 show in San Diego that the AirLink Helix RT intelligent 3G router could now be used on Verizon's 3G network. Approved for use by Verizon Wireless’ open development program, the new AirLink Helix RT router from Sierra Wireless comes to users with fast Internet access capabilities and can be used for a wide range of fixed and portable enterprise applications.

“The AirLink Helix RT router from Sierra Wireless is a valuable addition to the wide variety of products approved through our open development program,” said Anthony A. Lewis, vice president of open development at Verizon Wireless. “With built-in connection failover, integrated IPsec VPN and a strong set of tools for remote configuration and management, the Helix RT router provides another option for enterprise customers who rely on Verizon Wireless’ network for business continuity and remote site connectivity.”

The Helix RT can prove to be a great option when it comes to connectivity on the go. It comes with multiple connectivity ports, with Wi-Fi options and built-in security, so that more than one device can connect to Verizon's network at once. At the same time, the 3G router can be easily set up for temporary Internet access when it comes to applications like construction or special events. The new product also offers cost reductions, as it comes with remote management capabilities through the ACEware software.

The Helix router comes with a configurable WAN/LAN Ethernet port options and also includes built-in connection failover features. In case the primary connection fails, the device will switch to the 3G wireless network, while still monitoring the wireline network for connectivity. It can provide critical backup connectivity to businesses in any critical high-availability application, the two companies stated.

“Coupled with the Verizon Wireless network, the Helix RT offers businesses an exceptionally reliable and simple solution for primary or backup data connectivity supporting multiple connected devices,” said Justin Schmid, vice president, Mobile and M2M, for Sierra Wireless. “Powered by ALEOS, Helix provides the critical networking and security features essential for a broad set of business continuity applications. Combined with our comprehensive ACEware remote management suite, Helix is the cornerstone of a reliable, easy-to-use and maintain networking solution for enterprises and other organizations that depend on uninterrupted network access for their day-to-day operation.”
