According to a recent report from Allot Communications, the global mobile data bandwidth usage registered an impressive growth of 30 percent in the second quarter of the ongoing year. According to the firm, Asia saw a 36 percent increase, followed by Europe with 28 percent, and the Americas with 25 percent. The Allot GMBT Report is based on data collected from carriers all around the world, with a combined user base larger than 150 million subscribers.

According to the report, mobile phone users expect to see the same service from their mobile Internet as they receive on their fixed networks. It seems that wireless carriers see the same problems as the wireline providers, only that there are more technological limitations. Moreover, the network infrastructure enhances the issues, especially at times when the cell comes with natural bottlenecks, which drives network delays.

The report also shows that HTTP browsing has seen usage increase by 21 percent as it becomes the most popular application all around the world. In addition, HTTP streaming is reported to be the fastest growing application, while registering a growth in usage of 58 percent (streaming sites are included here). When it comes to HTTP downloads, they've seen a rise of 34 percent, becoming as popular as Peer2Peer, which accounts for 42 percent of the total bandwidth usage in the busiest cells.

“This report enables operators to map out subscriber behavior in all its complexities,” said Rami Hadar, president and CEO of Allot Communications. “It highlights how subscribers are really using their mobile data services and provides an invaluable overview of the industry and the changes that are taking place as it matures.”

The firm also states that the Allot GMBT Report data has been collected with the use of Allot NetXplorer, its centralized management and reporting system. The identification of usage trends and patterns is reportedly accurate, based on the length of the time frame, as temporary events do not influence the results.
