As announced not too long ago, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and search engine company Google have announced today an agreement that will result in the launch of new mobile phones on Verizon's airwaves. According to the duo, the first such device resulting from their cooperation is expected to become available for purchase for the carrier's users in the following few weeks.

The two companies have also announced that the new agreement is set to combine the performance levels delivered by Vrizon's network and by the Android operating system to deliver “leading-edge mobile applications, services and devices.” Those to benefit the most from the newly announced cooperation are end-users, who will enjoy both connectivity on the largest network in the United States, as well as products based on Google's Android OS.

Lowell McAdam, chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless, commented on the new announcement: “The nation's best wireless broadband network is a perfect complement to the innovation of Android-powered services and devices. Together, we'll work to deliver a compelling new experience to our customers.”

The two companies agreed to focus on the development of products that will come to users with leading-edge innovation in the shortest time possible. The duo plans on developing, marketing and distributing both products and services, which will become available for purchase both online on the carrier's website and through Verizon Wireless retail stores.

“The Android platform allows Verizon Wireless customers to experience faster and easier access to the web from any location,” said Eric Schmidt, chairman and chief executive officer for Google. “Through this partnership, we hope to deliver greater innovation in the mobile space to consumers across the U.S.”

No details on the Android-based mobile phones that will soon come to Verizon's offering have been unveiled, except for the fact that they will be delivered by leading handset manufacturers and that they will include innovative applications designed both by the two companies and by third-party developers.
