Might come as Zoom 2

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC is getting ready to release a series of new mobile phones to the market, among which we've already spotted the high-end Windows Mobile-powered HTC Leo (aka HD2 or Pro.Three), featuring a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. However, it seems that the company also plans on bringing the speedy CPU in the Android area with the future unannounced HTC Dragon.

In case the just spotted device will indeed come to the market, Android will certainly have a powerful device on its side to fight against Windows Mobile phones like the Leo, Toshiba TG01 or Acer F1. As one can easily imagine, the HTC Dragon is only a rumor at the moment, based on the presence of an experimental HTC build, it seems, and it surfaced on the XDA Developers.

“So, what I’ve got here is a little build we’re referring to as the 'Pet Dragon'. It’s highly experimental at the moment…and from what I have noticed after reviewing the build.prop files from this “system dump” of the device I spoke of earlier today…HTC Dragon. (dubbed 'Zoom 2') —> the screen resolution is 800 x 480…which as you can tell is quite an impressive resolution. Judging from the release keys, it’s also a capacitive touch screen device. Now, having said all this…it IS NOT the HTC Leo, HTC Desire, or Passion. Because this device is in fact operating on the '2.0' firmware along with the HTC Sense user interface applied for style. So, it’s like an 'Eclair Hero',” is how the device is reportedly described.

Said handset, which might surface at a certain point in the future as the Zoom 2, seems to be related to the HTC Leo, as they both should include the speedy processor and a high-resolution screen. The images below are supposedly showing the handset's interface, yet, as phandroid notes, they might very well be a product of the well-known Photoshop, especially since HTC's website does not return a result on Dragon. However, we should take this with a grain of salt and wait for some more consistent details to emerge before tagging the Android-based HTC Dragon as real.
