United States mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is reportedly suffering from a nationwide data outage today. Although a wide range of markets are said to be affected by the outage, it seems that there are still some where the connectivity works just fine, at least this is what users are commenting on forums, and what Verizon Wireless representatives said.

According to a recent article on Engadget, the issue with data connectivity has been already acknowledged by Verizon, though it seems that there are still no details available on when the problem might be solved. Unfortunately, the carrier hasn't put any status message on its website to indicate how things are moving along, though it is certainly working on bringing the service back online.

Various Verizon Wireless customers already started to report on the issue on various forums and, from what can be put together from there, it seems that Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Florida, or Georgia are among the affected markets. However, users in Delaware or New York say that the 3G connectivity is working just fine for them.

It seems that this is indeed a large data outage affecting Verizon Wireless' users, but, unfortunately, at the time of this article, the carrier hasn't provided an estimation on when things will be back to normal. For what it's worth, they will certainly work on resolving the issue as soon as possible, and we should expect for an official statement to follow shortly, most probably with details on what caused the outage.

Verizon is not the first carrier in the United States to be hit by network outage, and it certainly is not the last one either. T-Mobile experienced some issues with its network late last year, though it brought the service back online soon enough. Hopefully Verizon will also manage to fix the problem very soon, and we'll be able to learn what caused it. Keep an eye on this space for additional info.

[UPDATE] It seems that Verizon has managed to resolve the 3G connectivity issues. Here's what it states in an official tweet: "VZW resolves early AM data issue that involved parts, not all, of eastern US: mix of some out, slower service, many unaffected from 4-8 AM."
