Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced recently the activation of a new cell site in West Lafayette, meant to offer its customers the possibility to enjoy better voice calls coverage, as well as the possibility to send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages from their devices. At the same time, the new network expansion is also expected to result in better Internet access for users, and should enable them view high-quality videos on their phone, or to download music, games and ringtones.

According to the wireless operator, the new cell site has been deployed with a permanent backup generator so that it can offer wireless services even at times of emergency. The activation of the site should enhance the voice and data coverage of Verizon Wireless in Green Meadows and surrounding residential communities, including Kingswood and McQuinn Estates, as well as along State Road 26 between the Tippecanoe/Warren county line and Klondike Road.

“This new cell site was built to ensure that our customers in and around Green Meadows can continue relying on their phones for everything from making calls and sending messages to surfing the Internet and getting e-mail,” said Greg Haller, president – Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. “The most advanced device is only as good as the network it runs on. We aggressively invest in our Indiana network to increase coverage and capacity for our customers and to continue to raise the bar in network reliability.”

According to Verizon, it has been always focused on enhancing its wireless network around the country, and has invested more than $55 billion in improvements since it was formed. In Indiana, the carrier invested more than $1.06 billion in enhancing and expanding its network since 2000. At the same time, the company adds that Verizon Wireless has more than 550 employees and 37 company-owned retail locations in 23 cities in Indiana.
