Priced at $129.99 and $29.99 on contract, respectively

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced today the launch of two new handsets on its airwaves, namely the Motorola Barrage and Nokia 2705 Shade. According to the operator, the new Motorola device is available for purchase for its users starting today, October 1, on Verizon's website, while the Nokia Shade will also be put on sale online, starting with October 6.

The new Motorola Barrage comes to Big Red's lineup with attractive features, including a rugged form factor, protection against rain, humidity, solar radiation, high and low temperatures, blowing dust, salt fog, altitude, shock, vibration and transit drop, Push to Talk capabilities, support for a wide range of services from the company, including VZ Navigator, V CAST Music with Rhapsody and V CAST Video on Demand, as well as connectivity with the carrier's Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) network.

The specification list of the new phone also includes waterproof capabilities when submerged in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes, a 2.0-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, a 1170 mAH battery that delivers extended talk time, and dual speakers for enhanced audio quality. The Motorola Barrage is available for purchase from Verizon for a price of $129.99 with a two-year contract agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate. Available only online at the moment, the device will reach Verizon Wireless Communications Stores on November 16, the company said, adding that, starting with October 21, a non-camera version of the handset would also become available.

The second new mobile phone announced by Verizon, the Nokia 2705 Shade, comes in a flip form factor, a compact design and Xpress-on covers, which are sold separately, and which enable users to choose the colors they like for the device. The handset comes with a large display compared to its dimensions, support for VZ Navigator, as well as with a variety of messaging capabilities, including text, picture and voice messaging.

The specification list of Nokia Shade also includes a 1.3-megapixel photo snapper, support for up to 1,000 contacts in the address book, Bluetooth connectivity, Micro USB 2.0 compatible, Mobile Web support, and a battery that can deliver up to 300 minutes of talk time or up to 360 hours of standby time. The same as Motorola's Barrage, the Nokia handset will initially become available for purchase only online, on the carrier's website, priced at $29.99 with a two-year contract agreement, starting with October 6. The Xpress-on changeable covers in blue, red and purple are also available online for $19.99.
