Should reach Verizon before the year's end

There are two mobile phones coming from the Taiwanese handset maker HTC Corporation currently available on the US market with Google's Android operating system, namely the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G. However, one more awaits for its launch date, the HTC Hero for Sprint, yet it seems that another such device is to soon be available for purchase in the country, the Verizon-bound HTC Desire.

The handset (ADR6200 or ADR6200VW) has been spotted recently making a pit stop in FCC's courtyard on its way to Big Red, where it has received approval to be used with the wireless networks in the United States. Moreover, it has also gained Wi-Fi certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance, which should make it another Android-powered device hitting Verizon with Wi-Fi connectivity on board.

There are only a few things that are currently known about said device, although its name popped up a few times before in a series of rumors pointing at more than one HTC mobile phone getting ready to make an appearance on Verizon's offering. What is certain at the moment, it seems, is that the HTC Desire, if it maintains the name on the market, will run under Android. Other details should emerge either from the FCC after December 31st, 2009, the date when it can unveil publicly the documents it received from HTC for the Desire, or from the maker itself, which might introduce the phone officially before that date.

According to phandroid, the HTC Desire should be only one of the Android-based HTC phones headed for Verizon, with another two being HTC Passion and HTC Predator, though we'd rather say that fewer handsets will reach Big Red, and that one phone might surface under different names. Hopefully, we're wrong, and Verizon's users will have a wide range of mobile phones running under Google's operating system to choose from. Especially since another such device, coming from Motorola this time, namely the Motorola Sholes / Tao, has also received FCC approval and is expected to soon be announced officially as Verizon's first Android-based handset.
