On Verizon's airwaves

Mobile phone maker Motorola has recently announced the launch of its first Google Android-powered handset, the Motorola Cliq, soon to hit the shelves via T-Mobile in the United States and Orange in Europe (as Dext), and is expected to announce in the near future the launch of a second Android handset, the Motorola Sholes, also known as Tao.

The new handset, yet unofficial, has been rumored for quite some time now to be heading towards Verizon's offering, and it seems that this should happen on the first day of December 2009. According to a recent article on Android and Me, the phone is slated for launch on that very day, although there are no exact details on the name it will actually sport. Given the fact that Sholes has been recently spotted in FCC's courtyard, there are great chances that said launch date will prove real in the end.

According to a “mysterious letter,” a Motorola XXX handset (Tao fits perfectly here) was said to be on its way to Verizon's airwaves, with December 1 being the date when availability starts. The specification list of the unnamed handset in the letter fit perfectly what we already reported on Motorola Sholes and, given the suggested Tao name, the letter might have referred to the very same device that Motorola should release on Verizon's network with Google's Android operating system on board.

Nothing more can be said here, except maybe for the fact that Motorola's second Android device is shaping up as a great option for most users out there. Take a look at the letter Android and Me published on their website to learn a few more details on the device, though we should say that it includes mainly PR talk. However, this does not stop Motorola from delivering a great device on the market, following the also appealing Motorola Cliq that will become available for purchase through T-Mobile on November 2. Watch this space for more updates on Motorola's Sholes / Tao handset.
