The upgrade expected for November this year

HTC HD2 has been rumored quite a few times before to be on its way to receive an update to the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 operating system from Microsoft, and now another confirmation of the move emerged into the wild. It's not something new, it seems, as the info came from HTC back in December 2009; yet, it shows that there are more chances than none for HD2 to receive the update.

According to a post on the XDA-Developers forum, HTC provided the following response in the Windows Mobile 7 upgrade for HD2 matter: Thank you for your inquiry about HD2 What we do it ROM Upgrades from our website, however 6.5 windows mobile has only been out 2 months and windows mobile 7 hasn’t even been developed. This won't be out until next November at the earliest. But when it is available it will be a free download. If these steps have not helped, please let me know by responding using the link provided and I will be happy to check again for you.

This clearly shows that HTC aims at providing its existing HD2 owners with an update to the Windows Mobile 7 operating system, and we'll keep our fingers crossed for the handset vendor not to change its mind in the meantime. Especially since the handset is the first Windows phone to sport a capacitive touchscreen display, while also including multi-touch support via the HTC Sense UI and a powerful processor to make them all run smoothly.

However, we should also take into consideration other aspects of the matter, which are of a more recent date. HTC was reported last week to have confirmed via Twitter the upcoming WM 7 update for HD2, but the vendor un-confirmed the move soon after, stating that the first tweet was posted by mistake. At the same time, we also heard a series of rumors regarding the delay of WM 7 to 2011, which we hope won't prove real, and which might result in no updates for existing devices. Hopefully, Microsoft will bring the next-gen OS flavor at MWC next month, as previously rumored, and all will be clarified then, so stay tuned.
