Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just released new updates for two of its most popular mobile phones on the market, the HTC Hero, running under Google's Android operating system, and the HTC HD2, which is powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 platform. The Android device has seen a ROM upgrade, though it seems that it does not come for US users of the phone too, while the WM-based phone has received an update regarding the SIM contacts.

The new software solution for the HTC Hero comes in the form of ROM version 2.73.771.73 (H3G), yet the company hasn't unveiled any exact details on what it brings to the table. As for the update for the HTC HD2, the company notes the following: “This update for HTC HD2 allows for contacts stored on your SIM card to be properly displayed on your phone along with Phone and Exchange Server contacts.”

Those who would like to proceed with the update process on their handset should first make sure that the new software solution is needed. Thus, the owners of an HTC Hero will have to check for the ROM version on their phones, so as to make sure that it is not the same as the update (Home > Menu > Settings > About phone > Build number). As for HD2, the new software update is only meant for ROM versions less than or equal to 1.59.XXX.X, HTC notes.

Both software solutions are available for download from HTC's support website, here for the Hero and here for the HD2. The support pages will also offer users the necessary details on how to perform the upgrade, as well as on the tools and applications that are needed for the process. Those willing to perform the upgrade should also consider a backup of their files on the device, so as to make sure that nothing is lost in the process, at least when it comes to the HTC Hero.
