Chinese company Xiaomi is busy readying its flagship smartphone, the Mi5, for an early February announcement. This is the first high-end handset launched by Xiaomi in more than a year.

Most handset makers launch their flagship smartphones one year apart, but most of them release two per year.

Xiaomi had to delay its top-of-the-line smartphone, the Mi5, until February so that it could include Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 820 chipset.

Although it might not be the first smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor to be available on the market, Xiaomi Mi5 will definitely be in the first wave of such devices along with Samsung Galaxy S7 and LeTV Max Pro.

Even though Xiaomi has yet to announce the Mi5, we already have quite a lot of information regarding the phone's specs.

Several press renders of the smartphone leaked online over the past couple of weeks, so we also know what the Mi5 might look like. Today, a new set of pictures popped up in China to give us another glimpse at what's to come.

Glass coating on back and front

The pictures appeared recently on Weibo and show a metal-clad Xiaomi Mi5. Although the pictures might be deceiving regarding the nature of the material on the back of the smartphone, everything points to a possible aluminum cover.

The pictures also show a dual-tone LED flash along with a fingerprint sensor positioned right under the main camera. The 3.5mm audio jack port is placed on the top side of the phone while the USB Type C-port is positioned on the bottom side.

The front side of the smartphone isn't visible in these pictures, but we already know the Mi5 should pack a Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display.

Other specs confirmed by the rumor mill include either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 16GB or 64GB of internal memory, 5-inch display and 3,600 mAh battery with fast charging technology.
