As many of you probably know by now, Sony Mobile announced a new series of smartphones that will be available on the market in the coming months.

Dubbed Xperia X, the new family contains three smartphones at launch, but more will probably be added later this year.

The Xperia X Performance, Xperia X and Xperia XA will be rolled out globally this summer, and for the first time in many years the Japanese company announced these devices would be launched in the US around the same time.

But what about the Xperia Z series, which already has a dozen smartphones in the catalog? Could it be the Sony Mobile plans to replace it with the new Xperia X family?

The folks over at XperiaBlog have taken it to Sony to find out whether or not the company plans to launch more Xperia Z smartphones in the future.

No Xperia Z6 will ever be launched

The Japanese company's reply didn't take long to arrive, and the rumors have finally been confirmed. Here is what Sony Mobile has to say about its new strategy:

“The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”

This looks like a new chapter for Sony's mobile division, which has been bleeding money since forever. While we don't know if the Japanese company will launch fewer devices each year, we do know that their prices will remain high in comparison with the competition’s.

Hopefully, the new Xperia X series popularity will help Sony Mobile expand its portfolio of Android smartphones in the coming years.
