The Japanese company confirmed its return to this market

Announced earlier this week, the new Xperia X series seems to have replaced the Xperia Z family that did not appear to gain too much traction in the last couple of years.

That was probably one of the reasons that Sony Mobile has decided to pull out from various markets, including United Sates. Even though some of the company's flagship smartphones could still be purchased via its online store, they were rarely available at US carriers.

But the new Xperia X series might change that as the Japanese company is determined to come back to the US market with these devices.

Don Mesa, head of North American marketing for Sony Mobile told CNET that “this year represents a new chapter. We're committed to coming to the US with these Xperia X phones.”

Unfortunately, Xperia fans in the United States should not expect the new smartphones announced by Sony to come at any carriers in the country.

They will not be sold via US carriers

The company's official confirmed that the sale of Xperia X will follow the traditional routes, so you will find these devices at Sony's online store.

Additionally, Sony Mobile is trying to work out some deals with US retailers like Amazon and Best Buy to sell the Xperia X smartphones when they hit shelves.

According to Mesa, the advantage of offering the Xperia X lineup through its official retail channels, thus bypassing carriers, is that they will be available at the same time they are launched around the world.

No carrier testing is necessary, and no additional bloatware need to install on these products before they are approved for release in the United States.

However, Sony Mobile will have to compete with other major handset makers that follow the same route of selling their products via retailers like Amazon.

ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel offer much cheaper handsets in comparison with Sony's, which is why the Japanese company will have to “show their clear technical advantage.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Sony will be successful in making customers understand that its products, even if more expensive, are really worth the investment.

The entire Xperia X family consisting of three smartphones (Xperia X Performance, Xperia X, and Xperia XA) is expected to arrive on the market this summer.
