Sony Mobile announced about a week ago that it will hold a press conference at Mobile World Congress 2016, but the Japanese company did not offer details on what device could be unveiled there.

Today, three new Android smartphones have been outed by Sony Mobile, all three debuting a new Xperia X series: Xperia X, Xperia XA and Xperia Performance.

The Xperia X series is meant to cover all price tiers, so the three smartphones in the lineup come with very different specs inside, but similar design.

“Sony Mobile will continue to create increasingly personalized and intelligent products and services that empower you to do more, and live more creatively than ever.

“Our products and services will connect you to each other and become essential and beloved parts of your lives,” said Hiroki Totoki, president and CEO at Sony Mobile Communications.

Excellent cameras and powerful CPUs

The most powerful of the three is the Xperia X Performance, which comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor inside, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

At the back, the phone boasts an impressive 23-megapixel camera with predictive hybrid autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording, whereas at the front there's a no less impressive 13-megapixel camera.

The high-end smartphone sports a 5-inch display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution. Also, it's powered by a 2,700 mAh battery and meets IP68 rating requirements for water and dust resistance.

Next in line, Sony Xperia X comes with a similar 5-inch FHD display but embeds a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor and 3GB of RAM.

The same 23-megapixel camera is included on the back, along with a 13-megapixel shutter in the front. The smartphone comes with either 32GB or 64GB storage that can be expanded via microSD card slot.

The Xperia X is powered by a slightly smaller 2,620 mAh battery. It includes a fingerprint reader and it's IP68 certified.

All three come with full HD (1080p) displays

Last but not least, the Xperia XA will be the cheapest of the three, as the smartphone sports a 5-inch display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

It's also powered by a MediaTek MT6755 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory expandable via microSD card slot.

Sony Xperia XA comes with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with Exmos RS sensor (1.3-micron pixel), as well as a secondary 8-megapixel camera in the front. Also, it packs a 2,300 mAh battery, but no fingerprint reader.

All three Xperia X series smartphones ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box. No word on price and availability but customers will be able to choose from Graphite Black, White, Lime Gold or Rose Gold color options.
