Former pro tennis player asks for spousal support

Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting’s relationship is was the very definition of a whirlwind romance: they went out on one date and decided they were in love, moved in together the next day, got engaged after 3 months and married on New Year’s Eve. They are now divorcing after just 21 months of marriage.

The “Big Bang Theory” actress was the one to file for divorce, citing the usual irreconcilable differences in court documents filed after the September 25 public announcement. Sweeting is now asking for spousal support, Us Weekly reports.

Sweeting wants a cut of the money

Between the two filings, countless reports have emerged, trying to shed light on what went wrong in the marriage and what could have possibly upset Cuoco so badly as to make her want to erase even the slightest mention of Sweeting from all her social media accounts.

The consensus is that he’s developed an addiction to painkillers, which were prescribed to him after back surgery. Rumor has it that he was also depressed and jealous of his wife’s career, which has been going from strength to strength.

Whatever happened to make these 2 go down separate roads, it seems that he wants a cut of the money she’s been making: the report says he’s gunning for spousal support.

“His request, which was filed on Thursday, Oct. 15, is in response to the Big Bang Theory actress' filing for divorce late last month,” Us Weekly writes. “Per Cuoco's filed documents, spousal support is payable according to their prenup.”

No prenup, mo’ problems

Many celebrities (and not only) have prenuptial agreements drafted and signed before the big day with the “I Do” emotional moment. As much as we’d like to imagine that the vows of “till death do us part” will really last until that moment, the reality is different, as the soaring divorce rate can confirm.

It is assumed that Cuoco asked for a prenup, since she was the higher earner of the two and she would have thought to protect her assets in case the marriage didn’t work out.

If she didn’t get one or if doesn’t include a clause about spousal support, she’s in trouble: she has an estimated worth of $30 to $45 million (€26.4 million to €39.6 million), while he is only worth about $2 million (€1.8 million).

A large chunk of that money she made after she got married, so all that could be split in 2 in the divorce.
