The curved-edge design employed by Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 hcertainly raised the bar when it comes to the form of smartphones, as it made the two handsets even more attractive to users, aside from their high-end specs. It seems that other manufacturers are also looking into the advantages of a mobile phone with curved edges.

According to Chinese tech media site MyDrivers, both Huawei and Xiaomi intend to launch smartphones with curved edges this September. The report shows that Xiaomi will be launching a device named Mi Edge or Mi Note Edge.

The Chinese electronics company has had a top-tier device in its portfolio, Mi Note, launched in May 2015. However, it would need to incorporate serious improvements before it could integrate it in the Edge category and make some design changes as well.

During CES 2015, LG showcased its Edge-like prototype, which featured a dual-edge design very similar to that of Samsung Galaxy S6 at the time. Allegedly, LG is looking to sell its technology, and Xiaomi could be interested in incorporating it on the device it’s developing.

Huawei is interested in the same concept

Aside from Xiaomi, Huawei is also considering implementing this concept on its upcoming phones, as both manufacturers plan to launch their creations in September, during the renowned trade show IFA, held in Berlin.

In April this year, Huawei released multiple P9 model versions, one of which is P9 Lite. It came with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and quad-core Kirin 650 processor. It also boasts Dual Sim capabilities, 16 GB of storage, and the option to add up to 128 GB using a micro SD card. It also featured 2GB or 3GB of RAM, depending on the region where it was released.

Xiaomi has also been keeping itself busy, as only two months ago, it released the Mi 5, with 128 GB of storage and powerful Snapdragon 820 CPU, as well as an impressive camera of 16 MP. It integrated USB Type-C port, a component that more and more manufacturers are interested in. It also came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, and the phone received relatively positive reviews.
