14 DAY TRIAL // Although previous rumors claimed Huawei would launch no less than four P9 variants, the Chinese company has only introduced the P9 and P9 Plus.
The so-called Huawei P9 Lite and P9 Enhanced Edition weren’t unveiled on April 6, as most of us thought, but that doesn’t mean the smartphones won’t be launched at some point.
In fact, one of the two rumored handsets has just been confirmed by Huawei. The P9 Lite will be available for purchase in Europe in May. Customers will be able to grab one for just €300 off contract, which is quite decent, considering the phone’s specs.
As expected, the P9 Lite does not come with the dual-camera setup included in the other two models that have been previously announced. Still, the cheapest Huawei P9 variant features a 13-megapixel rear-facing photo snapper with LED flash and video recording.
On the inside, Huawei has confirmed the P9 Lite will come equipped with an octa-core Kirin 650 processor, coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM (depending on region).
Below the rear camera there’s a fingerprint sensor while on the front there’s a secondary 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
Similar metal body and just about the same size as P9
Huawei P9 Lite sports a 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution, and it’s powered by a more than decent 3,000 mAh battery.
Naturally, it ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box, along with Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 UI on top.
Design-wise, the P9 Lite is not much different from the standard P9 model. It has about the same size, and its body is made of metal, just like the Huawei P9. The main differentiator at first glance would be the lack of dual-camera setup on the back.
According to Huawei, the P9 Lite will be available in Black, White and Pink. Sadly, it’s unclear whether or not it will be released in the United States as well.
