The two smartphones won’t stream UHD content at launch

Samsung’s Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and LG G6 are some of the most exciting smartphones to hit the market at the start of this year, and they’re among the very few to come with wide displays that show more content.

Samsung emphasized the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Infinity Display with 18:5:9 aspect ratio, while LG bragged about the 18:9 screen on its latest premium G6 smartphone. However, they won’t be very useful for those who wish to binge-watch content on Netflix.

A Netflix customer service official stated that neither the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ or LG G6 would be certified for streaming UHD content on Netflix, according to PA. Fortunately, this situation won’t last for long, as the company is currently collaborating with both Samsung and LG to include the feature at a later date. Unfortunately, the customer service official hasn't revealed when that will happen.

It might take a while until Netflix will certify the phones

Devices certified for streaming Ultra HD content from Netflix do share some of their features with Mobile HDR Premium certificates, featured on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, but that doesn’t mean that the two certificates are identical. Some time will pass until the smartphones will be able to stream UHD content, hopefully not too much.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are expected to receive support for UHD Netflix streaming before LG’s G6 does, considering that the latter’s Dolby Vision screen requires more adjustments before receiving the functionality. Nevertheless, the latest flagship smartphones from Samsung and LG have the capacity to stream Ultra HD content and should receive the ability to do so on Netflix.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are already available for pre-order and they should start shipping on April 21. Perhaps, Netflix will fix the issue and allow users to stream UHD content as soon as they receive the new phones.
