It's only available via Windows Device Recovery Tool

Although we were expecting Microsoft to eventually release a new Windows 10 Mobile build to Windows Insiders, the company's officials confirmed that a new build would not come today.

That probably means that Windows Insiders won't get any new Windows 10 Mobile build until early next week. But that doesn't mean that firmware updates won't be released during that time.

These firmware updates are intended to address specific issues that affect some Lumia smartphones. Also, they may even target specific versions of Lumia handsets that are only available in some countries or at certain carriers.

Today, Microsoft confirmed that a new firmware update for Lumia 550 is now available for download. According to the Redmond-based company, the update will not be pushed OTA (over the air); instead Lumia 550 owners must download it via Windows Device Recovery Tool.

Those who own the Lumia 550, which comes with Windows 10 Mobile operating system right out of the box, should look for firmware version 15503.21007 through Windows Device Recovery Tool.

The firmware update should not be available to Windows Insiders unless they use the workaround provided recently by Microsoft.

No official changelog for the new firmware

It's also worth mentioning that Microsoft did not release an official changelog for this particular firmware update, so it's unclear what things it might fix for Lumia 550 devices.

If you own the Lumia 550 and don't have any major issue with the smartphone, then you might be better off downloading the latest Windows 10 Mobile build by enrolling in the Windows Insider program.

In the same piece of news, Microsoft announced earlier today that it would provide Windows Insiders with the option to download the latest firmware updates, which is not yet possible.

Until Microsoft update system is fully functional, Windows Insiders can now use the special application and choose to receive Production updates if they want the latest firmware on their smartphones.
