The new build could be released in the next couple of days

Windows Phone fans must be very disappointed by the fact that Microsoft is still delaying the launch of Windows 10 Mobile operating system.

Initially slated for a December release, the unveiling of Windows 10 Mobile has been moved to early January, but now rumors claim the new operating system might not arrive until February.

Even though there's less than a week until next month, there's no telling whether or not Microsoft will finally bring Windows 10 Mobile to current Windows Phone 8.1 handsets.

The good news is Microsoft will continue to offer updates for those who own smartphones powered by Windows 10 Mobile like Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, and Lumia 550, but also to Windows Insiders.

We reported earlier this week that the next Windows 10 Mobile build version 10586.71 might be the next one to arrive for Windows Insiders.

Today, new evidence spotted by AggiornamentiLumia (via WMPU) points to an imminent release of this particular build.

It looks like Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.71 has already been uploaded to Microsoft's servers, so it would make sense to be released in the next couple of days.

Monthly security updates for current Windows 10 Mobile devices

The update will be released to non-insiders, so if you own a Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL or Lumia 550 smartphone, then you are likely to receive this OTA (over the air) update sometime next week (probably on Tuesday).

Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.71 is meant to bring bug fixes, small improvements and polishes, as well as security patches to non-insider devices.

The update is likely to be part of the Threshold 2 stream, so we don't expect any significant changes to be implemented, as they will mostly be part of the Redstone builds that will soon arrive for Windows Insiders.

Microsoft plans to offer monthly security updates for current Windows 10 Mobile handsets (non-insider), much like Google is doing with its Nexus devices, but it remains to be seen whether or not it will be able to release them on time.
