Rumor had it that Microsoft wanted to launch the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update today, but the company has just confirmed that this is not the plan, and no such release will take place for the moment.

According to previous reports, Microsoft’s intention was to release the Anniversary Update for mobile devices on August 9 for unlocked devices, while a week later, the company was expected to introduce the new update for carrier phones.

But Dona Sarkar, the head of the Windows Insider program, has announced that the Anniversary Update won’t launch today, explaining that everyone will find out when this is scheduled to happen - most likely, Dona suggests that an announcement in this regard will be made public when a date is picked.

“No, not today. You’ll know when,” Dona has briefly answered to someone asking her whether the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update could go live today.

So when could this happen?

The biggest question for Windows 10 Mobile users right now is “if not today, then when?” Unfortunately, Microsoft still hasn’t provided a release date for the Anniversary Update, so the only option for the moment is to wait for an official announcement.

In the meantime, the company is also preparing to roll out the very first Redstone 2 build to insiders, with people close to the matter saying that both PCs and mobile devices are likely to get this build. The release could take place either this week or the next one, but once again, Microsoft is expected to share more information on these in the coming days.

The second wave of the Redstone update is projected to launch in spring 2017, so Microsoft has approximately six months to complete work with help from insiders. Redstone 2 is likely to bring more exciting updates for mobile devices, as Microsoft has promised that 2017 will introduce more cool stuff for Windows 10 Mobile, after focusing almost exclusively on PCs this year.
