Lumia India’s tweet might be accurate, after all

Microsoft started the Windows 10 Anniversary Update rollout on August 2 for PCs around the world, leaving mobile devices behind one more time and causing more frustration for users in the community.

The company, however, is working at full speed on making the Anniversary Update ready for mobile devices too, and a new report claims that the release could start as soon as Tuesday.

A tweet posted by the official account of Lumia India earlier this week revealed that Microsoft planned to launch Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update on August 9, but the message was quickly pulled by the company in what was believed to be another inaccurate posting.

But WindowsCentral now claims that Microsoft is indeed planning to release the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update next week, only that the company is aiming to do it separately for unlocked and carrier-locked devices.

Unlocked phones getting it first

First and foremost, unlocked Windows 10 Mobile phones will receive the Anniversary Update on August 9 while carrier phones will get it on August 16, one week later. The reason, according to the source, is that carriers need extra time to test the final version of the Anniversary Update before rolling it out to users, although they've had a chance to do it since build 14393 has been around for a while.

And speaking of builds, Windows 10 Mobile build 14393.10 is very likely to be the RTM shipped to users on August 9 and 16, respectively - this version isn’t yet available for insiders, but they’re likely to receive it before the public launch, or Microsoft could ship it to retail users directly.

Certainly, Microsoft is trying to bring the Anniversary Update to mobile users as fast as possible, and despite the delay, the company moved quite fast this time, and Windows 10 Mobile users only had to wait for approximately one week longer than those on PCs to get the final bits.

It remains to be seen if the rollout is indeed beginning on August 9, but make sure you keep your phones charged above 40 percent on Tuesday just to be prepared.
