Just another big game that gets delayed this year

Sadly, Final Fantasy VII Remake wasn't the only game Square Enix decided to delay this year. The publisher's subsidiary, Crystal Dynamics, announced Marvel's Avengers has been delayed by five months.

Previously scheduled to release on May 15, 2020, Crystal Dynamics' Marvel's Avengers has now been pushed back to September 4, 2020. The studio issued an official statement that offers details about the reasons behind its decision to delay the game.

At Crystal Dynamics our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience. In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel’s Avengers to September 4, 2020.

As fans ourselves, it’s an honor and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine-tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.”

We're not sure if the delay has anything to do with the rather lukewarm reception the game got after the demo revealed last year at E3 and Gamescom. What we do know is Crystal Dynamics will use the extra time to fine-tune and polish the game and certainly not to implement any radical changes to the gameplay.

September doesn't seem to be too crowded this year, so that's a good thing for Square Enix's upcoming superheroes game, but that's surely not a recipe for success. From what we've seen last year, Marvel's Avengers isn't a bad game, but it's not great either, so we're hoping to see some improvements when it launches later this year.
