Developers need more time to apply final polish to the game

Two of the most anticipated games coming out in 2020 have been delayed last year: The Last of Us Part 2 and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Today, yet another big title has been postponed as developers need more time for the final touches, Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Initially slated for a March 3, 2020 release, Final Fantasy VII Remake has been delayed by more than a month. Square Enix announced earlier today that the game is now expected to release for PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020, if nothing majorly wrong happens in the meantime.

In an official statement, Final Fantasy VII's producer Yoshinori Kitase said his team will use the extra time to address any issues and polish the game before launch. While it's great that the studio ensures crunch time hours are reduced to the minimum by giving itself more time to fix any problems, the announcement will probably disappoint hardcore fans.

We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on. In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10, 2020,” said Yoshinori Kitase, Producer of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Unfortunately for gamers, the new Final Fantasy VII Remake release date puts it dangerously close to the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED's upcoming RPG coming out on April 16, 2020. Not to mention that another important title, Animal Crossing: New Horizon will be launched on Nintendo Switch on April 14.

We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer,” added Kitase.
