Softpedia has learned that Apple's latest iPhone OS 3.0 beta has hit torrent sites and is currently available for download, for iPhone 3G and iPod touch first-generation, although not approved by Apple. The two files are listed as:

- “iPhone.3G.OS.3.0.BETA.3.build.7A280f.TL” and - “iPod.Touch.first.generation.OS.3.0.BETA.3.build.7A280f.TL.”

However, simply downloading the software is not enough, as other reports have shown. According to a Modmyi forum poster, those who download the betas also need to trick iTunes into thinking it is installing a non-developer build of the iPhone OS.

“This process fakes iTunes and activates iPhone as if it was 2.2 and You [sic] will have a full functioning 3.0 Beta without being an Apple Dev...,” the post over at the Modmyi forums reads. According to the author, users need iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 2, QuickPWN for iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 2 and iUtilities.

In order to legally download iPhone OS 3.0 and SDK, they have to log in over at Apple's Developer Connection page with a valid Apple ID. They must also be enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program to access the development resources for iPhone OS 3.0 Beta, and they need Mac OS X 10.5.5 (or later) to be able to use iPhone SDK 3.0 Beta 3 on a Mac. With the latest release of the software, Apple has updated Xcode IDE, the Interface Builder, as well as Dashcode, with tons of tweaks, enhancements and code corrections.

Softpedia doesn't encourage downloading non-approved / pirated Apple software via torrent sites. This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that readers / users should go forth with downloading pirated copies of iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3 via means of file-sharing services like BitTorrent.
