Apple, however, requires proof that users are registered developers in exchange for the iPhone OS 3.0 Beta

A forum post titled “Install & Run Beta 3.0 WITHOUT being on a Dev Account” caught our eye, as its author claims iPhone OS 3.0 can be downloaded and installed even by those who aren't registered with Apple as developers certified to run the software.

According to Apple, in order to download iPhone OS 3.0 and SDK, you need to log in with your Apple ID. You must also be enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program to access the development resources for iPhone OS 3.0 Beta, and you need Mac OS X 10.5.5 (or later) to be able to use iPhone SDK 3.0 Beta 3. However, it seems that (by the hands of hackers) it is now possible to download the new software, use iPhone-Dev-Team jailbreak tools and install iPhone OS 3.0 on an iPhone.

“This process fakes iTunes and activates iPhone as if it was 2.2 and You will have a full functioning 3.0 Beta without being an Apple Dev...,” the post over at the Modmyi forums reads. According to the author, users need iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 2, QuickPWN for iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 2 and iUtilities. Additional (installation / procedure) details are not offered in the post, although the author adds that iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3 (released yesterday) may also be supported by the tools required for the hack.

Softpedia doesn't condone jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch or any other device. This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that users should jailbreak their Apple device. Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may considerably reduce the quality of your experience using the respective device. If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / Jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and/or your cellular service provider.
