Chinese company Gionee has already launched two Marathon M5 smartphones, both of which are already available on the market.

Gionee Marathon M5 was initially introduced in China, but it made its debut in India as well. The improved version of the smartphone, Marathon M5 Plus was unveiled a few weeks later.

Today, the handset maker announced another version of the mid-range handset, Gionee Marathon M5 mini. According to a new report, the smartphone was officially introduced in Nigeria, but it's expected to arrive in other emerging markets in the coming weeks.

Unlike the previous versions, Marathon M5 mini is a budget-friendly smartphone, so don't expect any significant improvements.

Metallic body, impressive battery

The good news is Gionee keeps the focus on battery with the Marathon M5 family, as the mini version comes with a massive 4,000 mAh battery inside.

The rest of the phone's specs are standard for an affordable smartphone. The Marathon M5 mini sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

Also, the handset comes equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6580 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

At the back, the smartphone features an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, whereas in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

The phone has been rated for up to 2 days of standby time, more than 2 hours of music or up to 1.5 hours of talk time on 10 minutes of charge.

It's also worth mentioning that Gionee Marathon M5 mini ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system along with Amigo UI 3.1 on top.

“Gionee focuses on innovation, efficiency and affordability in ways that other brands don’t. Having received a warm reception from the Nigerian market when we introduced the Gionee M5 a few months ago, Gionee is following up with the M5 Mini,” said Marketing Director, Gionee Nigeria, Mr. Somoye Habeeb.
