As expected, Chinese company Gionee unveiled its new high-end smartphone, the sequel to Marathon M5 with 6,020 mAh battery, Marathon M5 Plus.

The new smartphone comes with improved specs, but also a higher price. Gionee Marathon M5 is available on the market for around $270, but the Plus model will go on sale in China on December 25 for $385.

Even so, the Marathon M5 Plus features much better specs like more storage, larger display, fingerprint sensor and more, PhoneRadar reports.

However, Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is powered by a smaller 5,020 mAh battery, which is rated for up to 53 hours of talk time or up to 34 days of standby time.

Obviously, the phablet ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box with Gionee's custom Amigo 3.1 UI overlaid.

It's also worth mentioning the Marathon M5 Plus is Gionee's first smartphone to feature a fingerprint sensor. Users will find the scanner right under the physical Home button.

Type-C port and fast charging technology

At the core, Gionee Marathon M5 Plus packs a 64-bit 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, 3GB of RAM and no less than 64GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

That's double the storage of the Marathon M5, hence the higher price. At the back, the smartphone features a 13-megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

Another strong point of the Marathon M5 Plus is the large 6-inch AMOLED display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating for extra protection.

Gionee also confirmed the Marathon M5 Plus comes with dual charging chips that should make the 5,050 mAh battery charge faster. It also offers dual-SIM and 4G LTE support, as well as Type-C 2.0 port.
