In order to compete with local smartphone makers in China, Samsung decided to provide customers with a more powerful version of its flagship device, the Galaxy S8+. Aside from China, the 6GB Galaxy S8+ is also available in the company’s home country.

The 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage Galaxy S8+ variant is sold out in Korea, just five days after pre-orders began. ZDNet reports that the initial stock of 150,000 units of Midnight Black Galaxy S8+ with 6GB of RAM is already sold out, while those who placed their orders afterward will get their devices as late as the end of May.

The report also reveals that Samsung sold a total of 620,000 Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ units in the country so far. Those who pre-ordered the Galaxy S8+ with 6GB of RAM also received the DeX Station for free, which provides users with a desktop experience.

The Galaxy S8 is a hit

Shipments of pre-ordered units are expected to start on April 18 in the country, while the phone will hit shelves on April 21. The Galaxy S8+ with 6GB of RAM sells for about $1,020, while some say that Samsung could make the variant available in other countries as well, depending on market demand.

So far, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ seem to have been quite profitable for Samsung, and the smartphones weren’t even released yet. The company managed to sell 550,000 units in the first two days in Korea, surpassing previous Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7 sales.

Surely, Samsung will record impressive operating profits in the next quarter, seeing how pre-orders of the Galaxy S8 surpassed those of the S7 by 5.5 times in Korea. The situation in the US is also encouraging, as Samsung recorded strong double-digit growth, but the company didn’t reveal actual pre-order numbers. With this in mind, Samsung’s mobile division is clearly recovering after last year’s Note 7 fiasco that affected its brand image and caused financial loss.
