Pre-order figures for Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, have been impressive in the company’s home country, where it broke previous records set last year by the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7.

Samsung’s US branch has just released a statement saying that early pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are “outpacing” its predecessors, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, “with strong double digit growth,” according to a report.

The company also adds that the Galaxy S8+ is more popular in the US compared to the regular Galaxy S8, while Midnight Black seems to be the preferred color version by customers. The phones are also available in Orchid Gray and Arctic Silver colors. Smartphones with larger displays have become increasingly appealing to consumers in the US, so it’s no wonder that the 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+ is doing so well.

In addition, Samsung recently upped production yields for the larger Galaxy S8+, in order to meet the high demand. Sadly, the South Korean smartphone maker didn’t reveal the exact number of pre-orders in the US during the week since the two phones were made available to customers.

Record-breaking pre-orders were recorded in Korea

In South Korea, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ recorded 550,000 pre-orders in just two days, surpassing the Galaxy Note 7’s 400,000 pre-orders. The latest flagship saw 5.5 times more pre-orders than the Galaxy S7, and it remains to be seen if it will surpass the highest sales record of 49 million units per year recorded by last year’s flagship.

Samsung predicts Galaxy S8 sales will boost operating profits in the next few quarters, in its race to become one of the best-selling Android smartphones and make consumers forget about last year’s Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. The Galaxy S8 is available for pre-order in multiple countries, while shipments are expected to arrive on April 17 at the earliest.
