Samsung is betting big on its latest flagship smartphone, as company officials have recently stated that the Galaxy S8 is expected to surpass the Galaxy S7’s sale record. Now, sales figures from South Korea seem to confirm that.

Samsung Galaxy S8 pre-orders in Korea surpassed those of its predecessor in the country, reaching a level of 550,000 units in just two days since the pre-order period started on April 7. The figure surpassed the record-high number of 400,000 pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 7 and 5.5 times more people placed an order for the latest Galaxy S8, compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S7.

The latter managed to record the highest sales of 49 million units per year and Samsung believes the latest flagship will surpass this figure as well. It’s not surprising that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge saw such a high demand, considering that Samsung relied massively on these two smartphone models after the Galaxy Note 7 discontinuation, right before last year’s holiday season. Moreover, some former Galaxy Note 7 owners waited for the new Galaxy S8 to arrive instead of buying the S7 or a device from another brand.

Samsung is confident in sales of the Galaxy S8

With its Infinity Display, Bixby virtual assistant, powerful specs, enhanced biometric security features and smoother design, the Galaxy S8 surely has all the advantages to become the best-selling Android-running smartphone of this year. Samsung even expects Galaxy S8 sales to boost operating profit in the next quarters, while the company already ramped up production of the 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+ to meet high demand.

To make the new smartphone even more appealing, Samsung and carriers are running lots of promotions, offering customers who pre-order the device free earphones or a DeX Station for creating a desktop experience. Once the Galaxy S8 releases on April 21, more and more consumers will be interested in upgrading to a powerful new device, especially since the company is also offering a special edition Asiana Airlines version in the country.
