14 DAY TRIAL // Xiaomi's Redmi lineup is among the most popular the Chinese handset maker has ever launched on the market mostly because the phones are very cheap. But that shouldn't surprise anyone since Xiaomi has a very low profit margin (or not at all) for its smartphones.
The Chinese company confirmed that, in some cases, it could sell millions of smartphones and don't make a profit at all. It's the other businesses that keep Xiaomi alive in China, as well as the service the company offers in the Mainland.
Anyway, we're here to tell you about one particular Xiaomi smartphone that should have been released with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board, but for some reason the Chinese company decided otherwise.
The Redmi Note 3 was launched on the market back in February and ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which is a bit of a shame considering that Google had Marshmallow released for many months.
However, Xiaomi announced soon after the Redmi Note 3 hit the shelves that it already started working on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and that it would roll out the update as soon as it's ready.
Unfortunately, it took the handset maker 10 months to release Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for the Redmi Note 3. GSMArena reports that Xiaomi has already started the rollout of the MIUI 8.1.1 update for the global edition of the smartphone.
MIUI 8.1.1 is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, so this is what you'll get if you own the Redmi Note 3, but also some exclusive features that Xiaomi includes in their products.
Keep in mind that this is a fairly sizable download, so make sure you have enough storage on your phone and that you're connected to a stable network. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update file weighs in at 1.3GB in size.
The update is pushed OTA (over the air), so you should be notified once it's available for download. Obviously, you can also manually check for it whenever you feel like it.
