If you lost hope that some of the older Xiaomi smartphones will ever be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, then you will be pleased to know the Chinese company will offer the upgrade to at least three smartphones.

According to a new report coming from GizmoChina, the company's MIUI operations manager confirmed that Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for three Xiaomi smartphones was in its final stages of development and would be soon released.

The following Xiaomi smartphones will receive MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system: Mi3, Mi4, and Mi Note.

Although no timeframe has been mentioned by the Xiaomi's official, we suspect Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the three smartphones listed earlier will arrive in the next couple of weeks.

Even though many will be pleased to learn that Xiaomi plans to upgrade the Mi3, a 3-year-old smartphone, to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, much more will be disgruntled that other popular handsets like Redmi Note 2 and Redmi 2 won't be among the first to receive the update.

In fact, it's still unclear whether or not Xiaomi will offer the Marshmallow upgrade to some of its mid-range Android smartphones as well.

The update's file size is about 518MB

The Mi3 and Mi4 have been Xiaomi's flagship smartphones in the past, so it makes sense to be among the first to receive the update, but it's still surprising that the Chinese company is considering Marshmallow for a 3-year-old handset, even if it's a flagship.

Anyway, Xiaomi's MIUI operations manager also published a screenshot with the upcoming update, which confirms Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be a 518MB download when it's released.

No additional details on the new features and improvements included in the update have been provided yet, but we expect more info in the next couple of days so stay tuned for more on this one.
