Well-known cooling expert, Korean company Zalman is reportedly getting ready to launch the new “SLC Series” USB flash drives. These are fast USB 3.0 sticks with very fast single-level cell NAND flash memory inside.

Technically, SLC NAND is faster and also more expensive than the usual MLC NAND used in most of the USB sticks and SSDs that are currently available.

A user going for a SLC-based device might also be after the increased durability of the SLC flash memory.

The durability of NAND is measured in P/E cycles and we’ve already explained this in detail here and here.

Zalman’s new “SLC Series” product line will have two USB sticks initially: a 16 GB version, called U3M16SLC and a 32 GB version, called U3M32SLC.

The company claims a 155 MB/s read speed and a 135 MB/s write speed for the new series.

Launching early next month, the drives are priced at 69 USD for the 16 GB version, and at 113 USD for the 32 GB model.

That’s around 54 EUR and 90 EUR, respectively, when European customers are concerned and 5,480 JPY or 8,980 JPY for the Japanese buyers.
