Leading retailer Best Buy has just announced that it would be offering the HTC Flyer tablet PC starting with May 22nd, following the availability of this device for pre-order for several weeks.

The HTC Flyer, the first tablet PC that Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC corporation brought to the spotlight with Google's Android operating system on board, is delivered to US customers in a WiFi-only flavor through the retailer.

The device was unveiled to the world during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and is already available for purchase in some markets in Europe.

“Best Buy today announced that the Wi-Fi only version of the HTC Flyer tablet launches on May 22. All Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile standalone stores, as well as BestBuy.com, will have the tablet exclusively at launch,” the retailers stated.

“The HTC Flyer is a fast, portable, light-weight tablet that integrates the immersive and highly intuitive HTC Sense experience and enables content including videos, music, games and more to be easily accessed and enjoyed.

“The addition of the HTC Flyer to our tablet lineup gives Best Buy further opportunity to help connect customers with the mobile technology that best meets their needs.”

The HTC Flyer comes to the market with a 7-inch touchscreen display, beneath which the handset vendor packed a 1.5GHz application processor.

Moreover, the device sports 32GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage.

It also sports Bluetooth connectivity, as well as 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as built-in GPS receiver with support for location-based applications.

The HTC Flyer runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor, and should receive an update to the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform version, which was designed specifically for tablet PCs.

It would offer support for various Google Mobile Services, such as Search, Gmail, Maps, YouTube, or Gtalk, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.
