The current open beta will be the deciding factor for a lot of Diablo fans

Blizzard is running an open beta weekend for Diablo III these days that allows anyone interested in the-role playing dungeon crawler to try it out before its actual release next month.

For me, and for quite a lot of my friends, this beta stage is the deciding factor for the long awaited RPG.

While I’m not necessarily a fan of Diablo, I still fondly remember the days of my highschool years spent playing the game with friends and fighting over loot.

Sadly, while I’m more than excited to once again go through that experience, Blizzard has added quite a few so-called “features” in Diablo III that are seriously hampering my interest in the game.

Of course, I’m talking about the mandatory online connection, the Auction House that requires real money, and the lack of mod support.

Videogames should be recreational and fun, no matter your actual location, and they should allow players some customization options. Putting up unreasonable demands, adding real money into the equation, and locking players out of the actual content threatens to completely alter this state of things.

I have a steady internet connection, both at home and at work, but even so, I found myself being disconnected from certain Mass Effect 3 multiplayer games because my connection dropped for a few moments.

While losing an online match of Mass Effect 3 may not be the end of the world, losing progress or loot in Diablo III may have dire consequences, especially if you don’t save every few minutes.

The Auction House will still have an area where you can buy items with in-game gold but, as we already saw in World of Warcraft, the temptation of real-world money will certainly make people sell their loot only for actual cash.

Last but not least, Skyrim’s ongoing success, especially on the PC, has proven that mods can increase the lifespan of any game, especially big RPGs like Diablo III, so eliminating such a feature will certainly go against Blizzard’s decision to make the new title an experience that can be enjoyed over the years.

These are just three of my pet peeves in regards to Diablo III. Feel free to share your own by leaving a comment below.
