Redmond-based software giant Microsoft officially released the newest version of its mobile operating system, namely Windows Mobile 6.5, at the beginning of this month, and various handset makers and wireless carriers around the world already started to offer upgrades for compatible WM 6.1-powered handsets. Among them, we can count Vodafone, which has just released a Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the HTC Touch Pro2 mobile phones sold with WM 6.1 on board.

Vodafone's ROM for the HTC Touch Pro2 comes as software version 4.49.25.17, and users will find it available for download on the carrier's website, where a series of instructions on how to perform the update are also available. The release notes for the new ROM can be found on the website as well, in the form of a PDF file, and those who would like to install the latest Windows Mobile version on their Touch Pro2 should take a look at them, to make sure that all is done right.

The update instruction list the wireless carrier posted for its users includes: - You need a broadband connection. - We recommend that you back up all important content – contacts, photos, ringtones, games etc – stored on your phone before you start. - You’ll need your phone’s USB cable. If you don’t have one you can buy one from your local Vodafone store. - You’ll also have to download an application to your PC. - Make sure your battery level is at least 50%, if not higher.

The new ROM for Touch Pro2 and the instructions on how to install it can be found on Vodafone's website here. Those who are uncertain regarding how to perform the update should know that they can always head towards a local Vodafone store, and the carrier's employees will do it. HTC already made available a generic ROM update for this device, but this one is carrier specific, and it includes some of the features Vodafone's users might have been already accustomed with.
