Mobile phone carrier Verizon made available for pre-order on its airwaves a new smartphone from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia PLAY, which should hit shelves on May 26th, and those interested in the purchase of this device would have new deals to benefit from for it, coming from Amazon and Wirefly.

At Verizon, the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY comes with a price tag of $199.99 attached to it, upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier.

However, those who would reserve the Xperia PLAY through Amazon would be able to do so while paying only $99.99 for the device, with a contract agreement included.

If pre-ordered at Wirefly, the Xperia PLAY would be $149.99 for new customers. Free of contract, the handset would cost $599.99 at Amazon, and $500 at Wirefly.

The smartphone has a lot of appealing features to offer to users, including support for PlayStation games, and a sliding gamepad with the usual PlayStation controls on it.

The smartphone comes with a large 4-inch touchscreen display, a fast 1GHz application processor, and Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform on top.

“A full-featured Android mobile phone, the Xperia PLAY by Sony Ericsson for Verizon Wireless is also the world's first PlayStation certified smartphone--providing the ultimate mobile gaming experience,” Amazon notes on its website.

“The Xperia PLAY pairs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system with a 1 GHz Snapdragon II processor and an Adreno 205 graphics processor for a faster overall experience and totally immersive gaming.

“Stereo sound adds additional depth and dimension to gaming, music and video, and the VGA front-facing camera enables easy video chat with fellow gamers.”

The mobile phone also includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 3G support, built-in 3G Mobile Hotspot via Wi-Fi, GPS receiver, MicroUSB port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for a wide range of Google Mobile services.

The handset comes with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, 400 MB of internal memory, microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (an 8GB card included), and various games pre-loaded on it.

"The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY comes pre-loaded with seven game titles including, Madden NFL 11 (EA Sports), Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior (Digital Legends), Asphalt 6: Adrenaline (Gameloft), The Sims 3 (EA), Star Battalion (Gameloft), Crash Bandicoot (Sony PlayStation) and Tetris,” Amazon continues.
