14 DAY TRIAL // Wireless carrier Rogers has two new Xony Ericsson smartphones available for purchase on its airwaves since several weeks ago, namely the Xperia arc and the Xperia PLAY, with the latter already registering its first price drop, courtesy of Best Buy.
The retailer has made the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY available for purchase for only $69.99 upon the signing of a 3-year contract agreement with the Canadian mobile phone carrier.
The usual price tag for the smartphone was set at $99.99, but those interested in making the purchase through Best Buy now would benefit from a $30.00 saving, it seems.
At the same time, Best Buy has put in place a special offer for users, namely a free $50 Gift Card with activation, available for those who make the purchase. Canadians would need to go to the nearest Best Buy store to take advantage of the deal on Xperia PLAY.
For those out of the loop, we should note that this is the first smartphone in the world to come with PlayStation certification.
The smartphone sports both a touchscreen display, as well as a sliding gamepad, and is powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.
The specifications list of Sony Ericsson's Xperia PLAY includes a 4-inch display, along with a fast 1GHz application processor inside, and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space.
The handset sports 3G, WiFi and Bluetooh connectivity, as well as a built-in GPS receiver, 3.5mm headphone jack, and the usual set of sensors.
It would also provide support for various services from Google, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market. The handset also supports a great deal of games, including specific PlayStation titles.

In addition to features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a 5MP camera, you simply slide open the phone to reveal PlayStation Certified controls for the most fun you can have with a smartphone,” Best Buy notes.
