Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is expected to start delivering a new software update for users of its Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY smartphone, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, the company would aim at offering users of these handsets the possibility to try out the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread operating system, along with a series of other enhancements packed with the update.

One of these enhancements would include the new Facebook inside Xperia feature that the handset vendor announced a few weeks ago for its Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro smartphones.

But this is not all. In addition to a newer flavor of Android, and of the said addition, users would also receive a series of security fixes for issues that these two handsets might have had, a recent article on Recombu explains.

The main improvement, of course, would be the addition of Facebook inside Xperia into the mix, a feature that provides users with better integration with the social networking destination on their devices.

Some of the new options that users would benefit from through this feature would include the possibility to like music playing on the phone, easy uploading or downloading of photos, syncing of Facebook calendar with the phone, and deeper integration of contacts and Facebook profiles.

The feature should prove great on all Sony Ericsson Xperia devices set to receive it, though it is an ongoing project, one that would not be aimed at replicating features that users would enjoy through a Facebook application.

Most probably, the update would be applied to other Xperia devices from Sony Ericsson as well, including the recently unveiled Xperia neo and Xperia pro, which were not brought to shelves as of yet.

The Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY, on the other hand, are already available for purchase, the latter being set to make an appearance on shelves in the United States too, on May 26th. The Xperia PLAY is already available for pre-order in the country, through Verizon.
