Android mobile phone users who are Verizon Wireless subscribers can now enjoy expanded functionality on their devices, as the wireless carrier has just announced the availability of V CAST Video for all of its Android-based smartphones. Those who are fond of entertainment can now get more from their phones, regardless whether that means watching popular television shows or staying up to date with sporting events.

“Univision Interactive Media will provide live streams of all 64 of its Spanish-language broadcasts of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer matches from South Africa exclusively to V CAST Video customers' mobile devices. The soccer tournament is just one of hundreds of live sporting events – including college football, college basketball and NHL Hockey – available on V CAST Video throughout the year,” Verizon Wireless announced.

V CAST Video is set to bring to the Android smartphones in Verizon's offering a nice range of top-rated entertainment, news and sports programs on demand. Moreover, users will have the option to watch these programs either on their handsets or on large screens, the wireless carrier revealed. There are over 230 full-length programs available for Android users on Verizon at the moment, coming from more than 40 leading providers.

According to Verizon, the latest programs added to V CAST Video include A&E, Lifetime and the History Channel from AETN, along with Spanish-language content from V-me. Those who would like to take advantage of this offering will find V CAST Video available in the Verizon Channel in Android Market, no matter the Android-based handset they use on Verizon's airwaves (DROID by Motorola, DROID ERIS, Motorola DEVOUR, DROID Incredible by HTC and LG Ally are all supported). The service requires a $10 monthly subscription, along with a smartphone data plan, the carrier concluded.

Additional details on V CAST Video, including information on how users can subscribe to the service, can be found on Verizon Wireless' website here.
