Leading mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced today a new expansion it made to its 3G network. According to the company, it has just deployed a new cell site in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, so as to meet the rising demand for wireless voice, 3G multimedia and Internet access its customers show. At the same time, the company notes that the new enhancement is part of its $2.6 billion investment it has made in the New England network since 2000.

According to the wireless carrier, the new cell site rolled-out in the area should result in expanded wireless voice and 3G data coverage in downtown Concord along Route 62 and Lowell Road, not to mention the surrounding areas. Moreover, the enhancement should also offer its customers using a smartphone or notebook the possibility to enjoy faster downloads of applications, improved Internet browsing, video streaming or email accessing.

Verizon Wireless’ 3G network coverage across New England is unparalleled,” said director for Network System Performance for Verizon Wireless, Richard Enright. “We’ve invested billions of dollars into New England believing that even the most sophisticated cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on. Our continued aggressive network investments provide customers with a 3G network advantage at home and on vacation.”

The new investment the carrier announced in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, is also expected to result in better wireless services delivered to its customers, including the Mobile Broadband Internet access, V CAST: Video and Music, V Cast Music with Rhapsody and others. Basically, this means that users will have the possibility to download files at speeds that top 1.4 megabits per second, or to upload them at average speeds of 500-800 kbps via Verizon's Mobile Broadband service.

As for V CAST: Video and Music and V Cast Music with Rhapsody, they offer users access to full song tracks, cutting-edge 3D games, or video streaming, all directly from the mobile phone. Not to mention the unlimited access to music provided by V CAST Music with Rhapsody, which enables users to purchase and download free of digital rights management (DRM) songs over the air.
