More money for Activision

The music game genre is one of the most popular on the gaming market today, with titles that bring a very big profit to the companies behind them, so it's only natural to see more and more big publishers and developers wanting to get into the action and make money in these hard financial times.

But seeing how a lot of corporations are after its “music crown,” Activision, the company behind the massively successful Guitar Hero franchise, will take some very big steps to ensure the profitability of the hard rock series. Despite the fact that it is already gearing up for two big releases in the following months, Guitar Hero: Metallica and GH: Greatest Hits, it seems that five more titles in the franchise will appear before the end of 2009.

Yes, you heard it right, the company plans to release five more Hero titles before the year ends, at least according to Eurogamer, which cites sources close to the big publisher. Among the rumors related to these new iterations, there are a lot of interesting things, such as the fact that famous rock group Van Halen will be getting the same treatment as Metallica or Aerosmith and will have their own title in which enthusiasts can play their tunes, entitled Hard Rock Van Halen, which might be released in August.

Besides this full game, fall will see a GH title each month, as September will be receiving Guitar Hero V, which is still a working title, October will see the much talked about DJ Hero and, before the holiday season, in November we will get Band Hero. All of these games are presumably made for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 2 platforms.

That's four fully fledged titles, and, according to the same source, the fifth one will be yet another DS exclusive, which will follow the already announced Modern Hits iteration. Whether or not it will be specific to the new DSi, we will have to wait and see.

So there you have it, couch rockers, Activision will surely supply a large amount of titles so that you can settle your rock urges this year. Hopefully, this move won't backfire on the company and saturate the market, decreasing the interest that players have in the franchise.
