Coming to the Nintendo DS

Activision Blizzard is really pushing for more and more Guitar Hero titles to be released on several platforms. Facing the prospect of a Rock Band title arriving on the PlayStation Portable, the publisher has released information on Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, which is the third installment of the series to make its way to the Nintendo DS handheld. This follows a copious amount of rumors related to the title and a frenzy of activity from Activision filling patents, with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, related to the upcoming game.

Activision says that, like the original game in the series and like the Decades sequel, Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits is set to use the now famous Guitar Hero Guitar Grip peripheral that is plugged into the Game Boy Advance slot of the Nintendo DS, allowing the player to simulate playing a real life guitar, even if in a slightly weird position.

The publisher has also released information regarding the tracks that would be featured in the game, saying that the following songs would certainly make it into Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hit: Wolfmother - “Dimension;” Coldplay - “Violet Hill;” Lenny Kravitz - “Where Are We Runnin'” Evanescence - “Sweet Sacrifice;” The Strokes - “Reptilia;” The Bravery - “Unconditional;” Fall Out Boy - “This Ain't a Scene;” Weezer - “Everybody Get Dangerous;” The Kaiser Chiefs - “Ruby;” 12 Stones - “Adrenaline;” Tenacious D - “The Metal;” Atreyu - “Falling Down.”

One aspect of the game on which Activision is not commenting is how Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits will get along with the new Nintendo DSi, which will not have a GBA port for the specialized peripheral. The company must be thinking that the game will appeal to those who already own an old DS Lite and a fresh iteration of the series will appear as the newer DSi gains popularity and sales on the Western market.
