Red Alert 3 Uprising takes on Empire: Total War

PC gaming has suffered from quite a lot of hate and disinterest from some developers and publishers due to the high piracy rate and the fact that normal retail sales aren't always as high as expected, compared to the ones from the online content distribution services.

But things are still going well for the companies that have decided to bring their titles to the old PC platform, as we have just received the newest sales charts from the retail sector, put together by the NPD Group, and form the top two content distribution networks, Steam and Direct2Drive.

The results are pretty interesting but on par with last week's figures, where the main battle was between THQ's Dawn of War II and Sega's Empire: Total War titles. But this week also sees the entrance of the first expansion to the very popular Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 game, entitled Uprising, which has been distributed only as digital download at Direct2Drive.

The sales figures also show that promotions are definitely a great way to guarantee big sales for games, as two titles that have recently seen some free trials and other price cuts, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and Unreal Tournament III, are present quite high in the charts. Here are the complete lists, courtesy of Kotaku.

So it definitely seems that strategy players are very keen on trying out all the new titles that have appeared at the beginning of this year. Hopefully, this trend will continue and the PC market will be healthier in 2009.
