According to Nintedo's Iwata interviews posted on the company's official website, the new games console, Wii, will have an updatable operating system.

He states that Wii is the first system from Nintendo that will evolve in a continuous manner. Even after customers buy the console, they will be able to expand and diversify their gaming experience through operating system updates. Information released until now revealed that Wii operates on a proprietary form of Linux Kernel and that Nintendo developers are currently working to develop a GNU/Linux operating system for the console.

In comparison with Sony, a company that had registered problems with the PS3 production, Nintendo is exceeding manufacturing goals for the Wii console. Sony asserts that it will ship up to 2.4 million units until the end of the year, while Nintendo plans to go as far as 9 million units. Nintendo already announced that 2 million units were manufactured by the end of September.

The troubles encountered by Sony with the manufacturing of the PS3 games consoles were caused by difficulties and shortage of laser diodes for the drives which will use Blu-ray discs. The diodes are a crucial component in the PS3 manufacturing process and that is why the PS 3launch was postponed so many times.
