14 DAY TRIAL // With a new patch just released, Uncharted 2 has reached version 1.04, but to the dismay of many, the update doesn't bring any new gifts, just misfortune and disappointment for few. For some time now, a "small percentage" of Uncharted 2 players was unable to access the game's multiplayer feature due to a very rare and peculiar glitch. Ever since last year, Naughty Dog started getting reports that some players received an erode message every time they tried to access the game's multiplayer, as they were greeted by the very unfriendly "Error syncing player data."
The 1.04 patch fixes this, but at a rather high cost. All those who suffered from this glitch will have their level roll-backed to ground zero, and all the progress you made before encountering this error has been grounded to dust. While most unfortunate, the solution is the only thing that the Dogs were able to come up with in order to grant those few afflicted ones the ability to go back to playing online. This level reset will only affect those that have encountered the "data sync" error, so the rest of the players shouldn't see any differences in the game.
The developers posted an official apology on their website, explaining the difficult decision they made. "This was not an easy decision for us to make. Over time it became clear to us that there [was] absolutely no other option remaining to eliminate this issue for all affected and ensure it doesn't happen again," the message reads.
"Our team here was tireless looking for a solution over the last few months -- we took a look at every possible way to address this using every possible approach we could think of and even ones we didn't think of initially. At the conclusion of our efforts to address this issue, we were left with the single solution we implemented in Title Update 1.04 -- to roll back accounts to Level 1 as part of the solution to clear up the 'error syncing player data' message."
As for something that affects the entire Uncharted 2 community, Naughty's PlayStation Heroes Skin Pack DLC was released today and it will just have to suffice until something more substantial comes along.
